Calabash is a series of pendant lights from Danish lighting company Lightyears, designed by Boris Berlin and Poul Christiansen (collectively Komplot Design). The world of mother nature was the inspiration behind the design and here the harmonious and simple form of a pumpkin or squash has been used to create the series of Calabashlights. The inspiration for the finish comes from Anish Kapoor's 'Cloud Gate' sculpture on display in Chicagos' Millennium Park since 2004.

Using authentic craftsmanship from start to finish the organic design and slightly changeable surface provides Calabash with its own unique expression. Made from drawn aluminium the chromed finish is complemented with a black, woven textile cord this provides a sharp contrast to the lively chromed surface, which is available in black chrome, gold and silver. Each light is fitted with a reflector to increase the down light - a warm and dazzle free illumination which is suitable for energy saving bulbs. It comes with a standard 3m flex length or - for higher ceilings and cluster installations - a 6m cord

In any environment, used singularly or clustered, Calabash is available in three sizes.

PLEASE NOTE: Calabash is a handcrafted item, created under the same conditions as hand blown glass and handmade ceramics. The aluminium shade, carefully shaped, is subjected to a comprehensive four step lacquering process all exclusively carried out by hand. Therefore its surface is slightly changeable and cannot be compared with chrome plating which delivers a completely uniform finish. Each Calabash shade differs from the next with small visible variations and areas of slight colour saturation, which may occur, a testament to the skilled craftsperson whose care and attention form part of its unique charm.
