Description

The Eames Lounge Chair - available here in a range of wood shell options and upholstered in Nubia - is the epitome of a furniture design classic. Manufactured under license from the Eames estate by Vitra, this is one of the most famous original designs by Charles & Ray Eames. Created in 1956, the Chair was originally designed as a modern interpretation of the traditional club chair.

Ultimate comfort was one of Charles & Ray's primary goals when developing the lounge chair. Their quest for a soft, pleasant sensation led them to experiment with a range of fabric and leather upholstery options. Following the 1956 launch, a fabric-covered version was available for just a short period and only a small number were ever produced.

In 2023 Vitra relaunced the Eames Lounge Chair with a fabric cover. Nubia is a soft boucle textile with a lively appearance, which gives the furniture icon a warm, cosy look.

The Eames’ first partnered with Vitra in 1957 to produce some of the most iconic pieces of furniture in the history of interior design. Today Vitra continues to reflect their philosophy on design and functionality, best understood through Charles’ own words: “Recognising the need is the primary condition for the design”.
