Description
Experience one of the most celebrated furniture designs of the 20th century - the Vitra Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman by Charles & Ray Eames. Designed in 1956 the Chair and Ottoman was originally designed as a modern interpretation of the traditional club chair. It consists of three laminated wooden shells attached to a die cast aluminium frame on shock mounts, giving a flexible connection. Soft leather or fabric upholstery sections provide the comfort. The base is swivel on the chair and fixed on the ottoman and is available in either polished aluminium, black with polished aluminium detail on the horizontal surfaces or completely black powder coated. Handmade in Europe by Vitra, each chair showcases meticulous craftsmanship, from carefully matched wood veneers to the highest quality leathers and fabric.
Designed to offer exceptional comfort and lasting beauty, the Lounge Chair has become a symbol of mid-century modern design, held in museum collections worldwide and featured in films, television, and cultural landmarks.
Available in two sizes - the Classic and the New Dimensions for taller users - it comes in a wide choice of veneers including Santos Palisander, Walnut with a natural or dark lacquer, Chestnut with black or natural lacquer or natural lacquered cherry. In addition, there is a range of 'Nubia' fabric choices as well as 2 grades of leather. Upholstery Fabrics and Leathers Explained
Nubia - This is a blended fabric with a very lively natural appearance. Its fine sunstructure is interspersed with voluminous bouclé yarn, which gives the fabric depth and a soft, inviting touch. The varying combinations of yarns yield either contrasting or calm colour compositions with a distinctively Mediterranean flair.
Premium Leather L50 - This is a relatively smooth cowhide leather with a flat grain and fine top sheen. It is dyed through, lightly pigmented and processed with a tanning agent extracted from olive tree leaves (a waste product of the olive harvest). A semi-aniline nappa leather with a very soft supple feel, vegetable tanned.
Natural Leather L60 - This is a very soft cowhide leather with an untreated grain. It is porous, breathable and acquires a lively patina through use. It is processed with a a tanning agent extracted from olive tree leaves (a waste product ofthe olive harvest). An aniline nappa leather with a natural open-pore grain, vegetable tanned.

Charles & Ray Eames
Charles and Ray Eames were the husband-and-wife design team who helped shape modern design as we know it.
