Frits Henningsen

Renowned as an uncompromising designer, Frits Henningsen was an advocate for quality craftsmanship. His ability to capture traditional expressions from different style periods with a modern interpretation made him one of Denmark's most distinguished designers of the early twentieth century. As a member of the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild, Henningsen was a major driver of the furniture exhibitions of the period, gaining recognition for his perfectionism and vibrant personality. Taking inspiration from earlier styles such as French Empire and the British 17th-century furniture, his functional design style was rooted in classic craftsmanship alongside a contemporary visual expression with a broad appeal – a combination embodied in his Heritage Armchair and his final design, the Signature Chair.
