Bent Karlby
Named amongst Denmark's most productive and playful lighting designers, Bent Karlby has an impressive portfolio of pendant lights, wall lights, table lamps and floor lamps.
Known for iconic and challenging designs like PEANUT, MOSAIK, NINOTCHKA and PAN, It's easy to see why Karlby's work is as popular and relevant today as it was five decades ago.
Early in his career, Karlby experimented with soft light and organic shapes and later moved towards pure geometric shapes like the cone, cylinder and arc. His hallmark peepholes are present in so many of his designs, as is his interest in colour.
He started his collaboration with LYFA in the 1940s, which was a partnership that would last nearly four decades. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Bent Karlby never employed a team in his studio. He worked alone and had an uncompromising work ethic and drive.
