Why your bedroom deserves a beautiful chair
You see it all the time, but what’s the deal with putting a chair in your bedroom?
We’ve spoken before about how a bedroom should be a sanctuary. Somewhere you can relax and sleep, not somewhere you hang out during the day and definitely not somewhere you should find a TV (although we are guilty of occasionally sneaking a laptop in to watch some Netflix at night). So if we’re not spending any time there, why would we need a chair?
Below we offer 3 reasons why your bedroom deserves (read needs) its own chair.
1. It's A Solid Design Choice
We usually preach functionality before aesthetic but on this occasion, it makes sense to get started with the big picture - how you want your bedroom to look. There are some challenges one can face when designing a bedroom scheme but thankfully, the right chair, stool or bench can help overcome them whilst adding an extra bit of functionality too.
Once you’ve got your bed, bedside tables and wardrobe in, you may be left with a corner of dead space that threatens to throw the balance of the room off. Tackle this by creating a cosy corner with a chair and a lamp (and perhaps a plant?).
A chair can also act as an accent, bringing together or working off other design elements within a space. If your bedroom features Scandinavian inspired neutral colours, a soaped oak chair will help add to that natural, soft minimal aesthetic. Want something that feels a little warmer? Try a walnut or stained oak chair, perhaps with some cane - like the Gascoin C-Chair from Gubi.
Tip : We’d advise against making your chair the focal point of the room, and avoid trends. Instead, opt for an understated and timeless design that will remain relevant as your design tastes evolve. You don’t want to have to change your furniture every time you change the wall colour, right?
2. Slow Starts Are Better Than Hitting Snooze
Rolling out of bed at the last minute and heading straight for the office (or home office) isn’t conducive to a healthy mind. Life is too short to start rushing around first thing in the morning. Instead, we set our alarms a bit earlier and enjoy a slow start to the day. A comfortable chair in your bedroom, accompanied by some soft light, a hot drink of your choice and maybe even a book beats a *hit snooze* morning every time.
If this is how you intend to use your bedroom chair, you’ll want something comfortable, so opt for generous proportions and a cushion (and a throw?) if you’re not going for an upholstered chair.
3. It's A Great Place To Get Ready
Whether you’re planning tomorrow’s outfit before bed, getting your clothes ready for when you’ve had your shower or simply just putting on your shoes before leaving the house, the humble chair (or bench) in your bedroom is here for you. It’s also a handy place to set a handbag that you’re likely to need in the not-so-distant future.
However, that’s not an excuse to discard a week's worth of clothes. You’ve got a wardrobe (we hope) - use it.

P.s. If you’ve got a vanity mirror/makeup station that you regularly use, a stool could be a versatile alternative to a chair.
What kind of chair should you use in your bedroom?
We’ve alluded to this above but there really isn’t a one chair fits all solution, and that’s a good thing. With so many options to choose from, you’re sure to find a chair, stool, or bench you love that is exactly what your bedroom needs.
