Stockholm Design Week 2020

There are few dates on the holiday calendar that the Utility team look forward to more than the annual trip to Stockholm furniture fair during Stockholm Design Week.

This year, Richard, Dick, Paul and Shaun jetted off from Manchester airport in the early hours for 2 action-packed days of design in Sweden's capital city, Stockholm.

It wasn't all flat whites and yummy pastries (although there was a fair bit of that) - the Stockholm trip is all about finding the best brands and product launches of 2020. Below, the guys round up their favourite finds - all of which are available to order online now at Utilitydesign.co.uk

Shaun's Highlight

The highlight of the trip for me (and this is becoming a regular occurrence) was Audo related. It was going to be hard to top our trip to The Audo in Copenhagen last year but we weren't to be disappointed.

The Sculptor's Residence, which I'm sure you'll have seen all over Instagram by now, was a joint venture between Audo, Norm Architects and Danish furniture & bed brand Dux. Our good friend Abi Dare has written more about the exhibition on her blog These Four Walls which I highly recommend checking out.

In terms of Audo product, the Japandi style (Japanese meets Scandi) Hashira Lamp was the standout for me. Warm and inviting, the Hashira collection will complement and soften your existing interior, as it did in this tactile space.

Also on display was the new Reverse Table Lamp which will be replacing my recently purchased Échasse Vase at the top of my wishlist.

Richard's Highlight

String Shelving has been one of our best-selling product ranges for a number of years and we're always excited to see what the Swedish design brand choose to add to an already comprehensive configurable storage solution.

At Stockholm Furniture Fair 2020 they debuted another fantastic colour option for their signature shelving panels. I think you'll agree, they look incredible when paired with String's walnut cabinetry and shelving.

Note: String have also rolled out their well-received beige colour option to all components for 2020.

The other big news from String this month has been the introduction of a new String Pocket Shelf in metal.

Available in 3 colour finishes (including a bold neon orange for those looking to make a statement) the new Pocket features perforated shelving, allowing for the user to attach additional String components such as towel rails, hooks and glass rails.

Dick's Highlight

Northern Lighting is a brand we added to our online selection at the backend of 2019 and we're all enjoying getting to know the collection.

A standout from the initial selection we put online was the Heat Pendant - a sculptural light fitting that blurs the boundaries between art and design. We found out in Stockholm that Heat is now available in two size options and a new metallic finish.

The Mass Side Table and Oaki Lounge Chair were also announced for Spring 2020 and I personally can't wait to get them into stock. We see big things on the horizon for Northern.

Paul's Highlights

I loved the Swedese Lamino Easy Chair for years, going back to my days of working in our showroom. It's easily the most comfortable chair I've ever sat on and it's only a matter of time before I have one in my home.

To mark the 75th anniversary of Swedese, the brand have announced the release of a special edition white pigmented oak & honey sheepskin version of the Lamino and footstool. We instantly ordered some for stock, and ever since - I've been thinking about how amazing it would look in my apartment.

The Swedese stand at Stockholm Furniture Fair also featured the wonderfully unique Libri desk and storage system as well as a beautiful selection of throws and home accessories. The Anna vase is stunning!
