Italian Lighting giant FLOS have heard the call and are already taking strides towards being more sustainable.

I think we can all accept that in order to continue to strive here on Earth, we collectively, need to start taking care of our home. Flos Global agree and they've been busy taking action, but as they'll tell you themselves, the job has only just begun.

Global agree and they've been busy taking action, but as they'll tell you themselves, the job has only just begun.

Below, we celebrate 3 of the eco conscious goals Flos have achieved thus far, but feel free to visit "Flos For The Planet" for a fully transparent breakdown of the company's objectives.

If you'd like to take a look at some ways you can be more sustainable when shopping for furniture & lighting, you can find our Sustainable Furniture buying guide here.

Fostering Disassembly

"Flos supports the research on disassembly and maintainability processes, that are facilitated by modularity. Since 2020 a new developing process has been adopted to allow the complete disassembly of new products." - Flos Global

We've seen this with the launch of the Flos Bellhop Floor Lamp. The lamp can be completely disassembled so at the end of its life cycle (if for some reason you'd like to throw it out) the different material components can all be sorted and recycled.

Flos tell us that all new products in 2021 and beyond will be designed to be assembled without the use of glues. We think this is super exciting!

The Carbon Footprint

Flos Global have measured their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions along their entire value chain and have already made double digit reductions in their annual emissions. 27% is just the beginning but it's a strong start.

As a temporary measure, Flos have purchased GHG credits by supporting two incredible projects - Great Bear Forest Carbon Project in Canadian British Columbia and the Guatemalan Conservation Coast Project. This has allowed them, not only to reach carbon neutrality for 2020, but also affect actual change.

Packaging

Flos’ objective is to reduce the amount of packaging materials and to improve their recyclability, while ensuring an adequate protective barrier during transportation.

In this direction Flos has continued the progressive replacement of non-recyclable polyurethane foams (69% decrease in the purchase of polyurethane foams in 2020 compared to 2013) with cardboard boxes, specifically developed to deliver the same protection standards.
