Gio Ponti
Gio Ponti (1891-1979) was an architect and designer. Ponti claimed that "the past does not exist. Everything is simultaneous. In our culture only the present exists in our idea of the past and our vision of the future." He set out to unite both old and new in his product designs. When designing his most famous Superleggera Chair he analysed the simple wooden chairs he found in an Italian fishing village, adapting the design and finding suitable yet traditional materials for his own chairs. The result was a modern product which was suitable for mass production.
