Utility Follows | Hege Morris - Hege In France
Hege In France
You could quite easily spend a full hour looking through the photographs on Hege Morris' Instagram account. We know because we've done it (more than once). The Norwegian born visual merchandiser and interior stylist lives in Scotland with her husband and son these days but her nordic roots are still very much evident both on her Instagram account and popular blog 'Hege In France'. We've been fans for such a long time that it made perfect sense to use our Utility Follows series to finally catch up with Hege to discuss her route into blogging, her personal interior style, favourite brands and of course, who she's following on Instagram right now. Read the full interview below.
What inspired you to start blogging?
"I started my blog whilst living in France (hence the name). It was more like a diary in the beginning and I was blogging about my love for second hand furniture that I'd find at local markets. I used to 'upcycle' and sell things that I painted and restored. I didn't really know much about blogging when I started and had no idea where it would take me.
I've been blogging now since 2011 and it's been a big journey of discovery, as well as a big learning curve."
How would you describe Hege In France? "It's a blog about nordic design and interior inspiration. I blog about what inspires me and also show a lot from my own home. In addition to interior design I feature some fashion and travel too. My blog is mostly about light interiors and I have a huge love for natural light and green plants. When I take photos I only use natural light and love what it brings to my photos. "
How would you describe your personal style, in your home?
"Yes, most definitely. I wear mostly black clothes and I would say my interior style even determines where we stay when we go on holiday. If we book an Airbnb or a hotel I spend ages choosing the right place."
What are some of your favourite interior brands at the moment? " They are mostly Danish.. Muuto, Fredericia, Jensen and Menu are some of the larger ones. I also love independent makers and find a lot of them when I visit exhibitions like Clerkenwell Design Week. "
If you could have just one product from Utility, what would it be?
"It would have to be an item from the olive green Hay Palissade outdoor furniture. It's so timeless and would be perfect on our patio. "
Are there any Instagram accounts that you love and think we should be following?
"There are so many I love. Some of my favourites are @septemberedit, @thesefourwalls, @lepetitfika @amymenton, @michieljobsman and @pellahedeby to mention a few."
Finally, we’d like to do some reading over lunch - which of your recent blog articles should we start with?
"I would suggest having a look at the beautiful Airbnb we stayed in on our recent trip to France and my trip to Elie in Scotland. It's such a nice place to visit and we got to see some amazing homes. My latest styling for Fredericia of the Trinidad chairs by Nanna Ditzel is also worth a read. The chairs are stunning!"
