Spotlight on Simon Legald's Bit Stool
"A large part of the design process consists of reflecting on materials, their quality, durability, origin, environmental impact and life cycle. We constantly seek new ways to introduce more circular designs into our collection."

Designed by Simon Legald, the Normann Copenhagen Bit Stool is a versatile piece of furniture that boasts a multitude of uses - as a side table, a pedestal for a statement floral arrangement, or even as impromptu seating for that unexpected dinner guest.
The unique finish is created from 100% recycled plastic. Here’s how…

Each Normann Copenhagen Bit Stool is crafted with recycled plastic that originates primarily from post-industrial waste, with a smaller portion coming from household waste. Once this plastic waste is collected, it’s chopped into small fragments and colour stained to fit the Bit Stool variations available online at Utility today.

For the forming of the Bit Stool, the colour-sorted plastic fragments are weighed - each stool uses exactly 4.5kg of recycled plastic. The material is then poured into moulds, and cast using a rotational moulding technique at a temperature of exactly 120°C.
Particular care is taken in ensuring a steady 120°C as overheating would damage the structure of the plastic, making it unsuitable for further recycling. Instead, the 120°C melting point enables each Bit Stool to be reheated and recycled repeatedly without altering the material’s properties.

The result is a circular design suitable for a wealth of functions and settings. Bit Stool can be used in indoor and outdoor environments, withstanding temperatures from -10°C to +50°C. Its straightforward design makes it ideal for numerous uses, from additional seating to a pedestal for a vase or a side table.
