At Home with Patricia Perales Garcia
Carl Hansen & Søn presents ‘A Tribute to Kaare Klint’ - a series of home visits, stepping into the private residences of people living and working with Klint’s iconic designs. Common for all is their love for design, art, and architecture.
First up, Copenhagen-based, Spanish artist Patricia Perales García. García's relationship with Kaare Klints furniture designs is rooted in a pair of sun-bleached Safari Chairs that belonged to the grandmother of her Danish husband.

Patricia Perales García crosses the practices of textile design and ceramics with unique works reflecting mental landscapes. After studying and living for several years in both Florence and London, García parts her work between Copenhagen and the small Danish island of Glænø.
"Reflecting on it, I can see how especially Copenhagen’s architecture and the city as a landscape have influenced my practice in terms of volume, proportion, and spatiality"
"Color and composition are two of the pillars when starting a new work, along with the thoughts and feelings I had prior to the process of developing each piece. I see my works as a walk through my internal life and mental landscape. They are all independent characters that unfold and bring meaning to one another."
García owns two Kaare Klint Safari Chairs in a beautiful green that have been bleached by the sun throughout the years. It's this type of ageing that makes natural materials so special.
"They were bought by my husband’s grandmother a long time ago. She is no longer here but I know of Kaare Klint through her, and I find there is something beautiful in the possibility of getting to know someone across time this way."
When quizzed on her favourite Kaare Klint design, García points to the "Kirkestol" stating that its pretentiousness and austerity that appeals - the humble materials and form reminding her of a countryside home chair common in her home country.
