Description
The Audo Copenhagen Knitting Chair in Sheepskin is a distinctive lounge chair that combines strong architectural lines with a soft, inviting finish. Designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen on 1951, it reflects a refined approach to comfort, where every detail is shaped around how the chair is used in everyday life.
Its open frame and angled form create a sense of lightness, while also offering a naturally supportive seating position. The characteristic arm openings are designed to allow freedom of movement, making the chair particularly comfortable for reading or unwinding. This thoughtful balance between structure and ease gives the chair a unique identity among mid-century inspired designs.
The addition of sheepskin upholstery transforms the experience of the chair, adding both visual warmth and a soft, tactile surface. The natural texture enhances the overall depth of the design, creating a piece that feels as comfortable as it looks. It also introduces a more relaxed, inviting character, making it well suited to living rooms, bedrooms or quiet corners of the home.
Crafted with a solid wood frame, the chair highlights the beauty of natural materials while maintaining durability for everyday use. The contrast between the structured timber frame and the softness of the sheepskin creates a balanced composition that works across a variety of interior styles, from Scandinavian minimalism to more layered, contemporary spaces.
Despite its sculptural presence, the chair remains versatile in placement thanks to its relatively compact footprint and open design. It can act as a statement piece or integrate seamlessly into a wider seating arrangement, bringing both function and character to a space.
The Audo Copenhagen Knitting Chair Sheepskin is more than a lounge chair - it's a considered piece of design that brings together comfort, craftsmanship and timeless form, offering a relaxed yet refined seating experience for modern interiors.

Ib Kofod-Larsen
Architect Ib Kofod-Larsen (1921-2003) had a successful career in the 1950s and 1960s when Danish design was flourishing across the world. A large part of his vast furniture catalogue was designed for the non-Danish market and manufactured abroad. He worked especially for American, Swedish, British and German furniture companies and manufacturers, and this may be the reason that his furniture has undeservedly become better known internationally than in his home country of Denmark.
Ib Kofod-Larsen formed part of a movement known as Danish Modern, but he went slightly under the radar and worked in the shadow of Kaare Klint, Hans J. Wegner, Børge Mogensen, Arne Jacobsen, Finn Juhl and Nanna Ditzel. Today he is called one of the most underrated – but most exciting – names on the Danish design scene. And one of the greatest design brains Denmark ever had.
