Description
Vitra's Amoebe Chair was originally dreamed up for Verner Panton's famous 'Visiona' installation. It is a marvellous example of close-to-the-floor lounge furniture and embodies the spirit of the early 1970s when it was designed. In bright colours, the re-edition Amoebe Chair delivers even greater comfort thanks to its flexible backrest shell. There are two Amoebe designs available - the standard chair and Amoebe Highback with its over extended back and canopy - creating a sense of shelter and seclusion.
Both Amoebe chairs are available in several shades of Tonus (90% virgin wool, 10% helanca) and Volo (15% polyamide, 85% new wool) fabrics.

Verner Panton
Verner Panton (1926–1998) was one of Denmark’s most influential and daring 20th-century designers, celebrated for his bold use of colour, innovative materials, and sculptural forms. Originally working for Arne Jacobsen he broke away from the traditional Scandinavian design language of natural woods and muted tones, embracing plastic, steel, and vibrant palettes to create designs that felt futuristic, playful, and unmistakably modern.
Best known for the Vitra Panton Chair, the world’s first moulded plastic chair made from a single piece, his work pushed the boundaries of what furniture and lighting could be. From striking pendant lamps to expressive modular seating systems, Panton’s creations are not only functional but also immersive, transforming interiors into environments full of personality and energy.
Throughout his career, he collaborated with leading brands such as Vitra producing pieces that remain icons of modern design. His lamps and furniture are now regarded as design classics, held in museum collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the V&A in London.
