Poul Volther
Poul Volther (1923 -2001) was a Danish furniture designer who initially trained as a cabinet maker after studying furniture design at the Arts and Crafts School in Copenhagen. A firm functionalist Volther steered away from aesthetic trends, instead concentrating his efforts on the craftsmanship of quality materials which he was to advocate amongs all the students he taught at Denmark's Design School. He was employed by the the FDB co-operative in 1949 working under the leadership of Børge Mogensen, where he was to succeed Mogensen from 1950-1955. He went on to design a series of Windsor chairs, many of which have become Danish icons in theior own right. These are now manufactured by FDB Mobler in Denmark using FSC certified timber.
