Description

This Knoll Bertoia Large Diamond Armchair, designed by Harry Bertoia in 1952, is from his series of lounge and dining chairs created using welded metal rods to create furniture which has reached design classic status. This version Diamond Armchair is of a more generous size than the original Diamond Armchair and comes fully upholstered. Made from chrome welded steel rods it is scratch, chip and chemical resistant and comes with plastic floor glides. With a polished chrome, black or white frame it comes in a large selection of upholstery choices to complement your interior colour scheme. A large statement chair, wherever it's placed.

Italian born, Harry Bertoia started his career as a teacher. It was not until he left this post to join the war effort in the Eames office in Venice, that he realised his passion for sculpture after attending welding classes. Bertoia primarily used hand coated metal rods in his work as they allowed him to build up large nets that formed a multi-layered effect signifying space and time. The first examples of this new style of seating were seen when he accepted the invitation to work for Knoll Associates, where he produced the Bertoia Diamond Chair in the 1950s.
