Description

The Knoll Bertoia Diamond Armchair Chair - Outdoor offers an Al Fresco version of Harry Bertoia's 1952 design icon. The outdoor version maintains the same stunning aesthetic and generous dimensions of the indoor version but with a Rilsan coating on the steel that makes it more durable and suitable for outdoor use. Finished with a removable seat pad in Spinneybeck Volo leather, the outdoor diamond chair is made for relaxing days in the garden, on the patio or by the pool. Faithfully produced by Knoll Studio for decades, the Diamond Chair is a real original.

Harry Bertoia

Italian born, Harry Bertoia started his career as a teacher. It was not until he left this post to join the war effort in the Eames office in Venice, that he realised his passion for sculpture after attending welding classes. Bertoia primarily used hand coated metal rods in his work as they allowed him to build up large nets that formed a multi-layered effect signifying space and time. The first examples of this new style of seating were seen when he accepted the invitation to work for Knoll Associates, where he produced the Bertoia Diamond Chair in the 1950s.
