Tom Dixon
Born in Sfax, Tunisia in 1959 Tom Dixon moved to England in 1963 and studied at the Chelsea School of Art. He is one of the most influential figures in contemporary British design, known for turning everyday objects into bold, sculptural statements. Largely self-taught, he first made his mark in the 1980s creating welded furniture from reclaimed material - an experimental approach that still shapes his work today.
Over the years, Dixon has built a global reputation for lighting and furniture that combines industrial techniques with a refined, modern edge. His designs often explore the relationship between material, form, and light, resulting in pieces that feel both innovative and timeless. Through his eponymous design brand, he continues to push boundaries with distinctive collections that bring character and atmosphere to interiors. Whether it’s a striking pendant light or a subtle table piece, Tom Dixon’s work is all about creating impact through design. Among his most notable designs are the S Chair for Cappellini and his highly successful Jack Light for another of his own manufacturing ventures, Eurolounge. His own company, Tom Dixon, also manufacturers the lighting pieces including the Beat, Mirror Ball, Melt, Whirl, and Bell ranges with more recent ventures in upholstery and outdoor furniture.
