First designed in 1947, the Artek Chair 45 has been reissued in an edition optimised to suit contemporary living conditions perfectly. Upholstered in a series of quilted leathers each chair features its own distinctive armrests, making it a subtle statement piece for the modern home.

Description
Available in a choice of character-rich finishes, the Artek Chair 45 is a reissued classic from the archives of Alvar Aalto. Finland's most highly-regarded furniture designer, Alvar Aalto designed a number of iconic chairs that sit within the pantheon of all-time greats, with the 45 building upon his core philosophy of building furniture that was human-centred and empathetic. The materiality of the chair is on full show, with the shapely wooden frame of the chair complimented in dramatic style by the quilted leather seat and backrest, which provides an effortless sense of comfort.
Equally at home around a dining table, against a desk or simply placed on its own in a living room, the Chair 45 is an aesthetically impressive piece of chair design that promises an enjoyably tactile experience.

Alvar Aalto
Born in Kuortane, Finland in 1898, Alvar Aalto was one of the founders of Finnish brand Artek and is recognised today as one of the greatest masters in modern architecture. His long, prolific and varied career was marked by collaborations with almost all key public institutions - town halls, theatres, churches, libraries and universities - as well as standardised housing and private homes. In fact, it was the Paimio 41 Armchair, created in 1931-32 for the Tuberculosis Sanatorium in Paimio, that provided his international breakthrough. Artek was set up in 1935 to market and sell Alvar and Aino Aalto's furniture, lamps and textiles not just to Finnish customers but also to an international market. To this day, Artek still enjoys worldwide popularity and success, with Aalto's innovative designs forming the basis of the collection.
