Description
The Standard chair, designed by Jean Prouvé in 1935/50 for Vitra, is a prime example of his working with thin steel sheet, a material he had long been looking for during his previous work with cast metal. The legs are powder coated in various colours with a seat and backrest in either natural oak, dark stained oak or black pigmented walnut, varnished for a natural wood effect.

Jean Prouve
Jean Prouvé is regarded as one of the most influential furniture designers of the early modern design movement. Specialising in the use of steel and aluminium in his designs, he is said to have considered himself more as an engineer than a modern designer. Prouvé was a pioneer of his time concentrating purely on efficiency and the materials being used rather than just the aesthetic appeal of products.
