Vitra Rayonnage Mural Shelf
The Vitra Rayonnage Mural was designed by Jean Prouvé for Vitra in 1936, originally for the Ecole Nationale Professionelle in the French city of Metz. It comprises twin wooden shelves mounted in sheet steel brackets. Choose from dark or light oak shelves and a choice of metal colours.

Description
The Vitra Rayonnage Mural, designed by Jean Prouvé fin 1936 - one of many wall mounted shelves he designed but this was designed specifically for Ecole Nationale Professionelle in the French city of Metz. The two metal wall brackets are made from painted bent sheet metal. With their streamlined shape the silhouette is reminiscent of the rudder of an aircraft or ship. - a recurring element in Prouve's designs.
The brackets themselves have precise horizontal slits into which the solid wooden shelves are inserted. Collectively, the two materials form a practical shelf unit that with a distinct sculptural quality. Choose from a dark or natural oak shelf with four options of bracket colour.

Jean Prouve
Jean Prouvé is regarded as one of the most influential furniture designers of the early modern design movement. Specialising in the use of steel and aluminium in his designs, he is said to have considered himself more as an engineer than a modern designer. Prouvé was a pioneer of his time concentrating purely on efficiency and the materials being used rather than just the aesthetic appeal of products. His iconic Trapeze Dining Table, manufactured by Vitra is one of his many timeless designs with its alluring appeal and versatility - flexible to apply to any design style.
