Description
The Eames House Bird is one of the most recognisable objects from the home of Charles & Ray Eames. For over seventy years, this characterful wooden bird stood at the centre of their living room, often appearing in the couple’s photographs and even on an early advertising poster for Eames furniture.
Originally an item of American folk art from the Appalachian Mountains around 1910, the bird was discovered by the Eames' during their travels and became a treasured part of their personal collection.
Vitra now produces the Eames House Bird based on the original model. This edition, finished in cotton white, is crafted from solid ash treated with pigmented oil, with slender metal legs that give it a light, elegant stance. Both a piece of design history and a striking modern accessory, it captures the playful spirit and refined eye of Charles and Ray Eames.

Charles & Ray Eames
Charles and Ray Eames were the husband-and-wife design team who helped shape modern design as we know it. Famous for their playful yet functional approach, the Eameses worked across architecture, furniture, industrial design and even film and photography — always with the belief that good design should improve everyday life.
Their collaboration with Vitra began in 1957 and has since produced some of the most iconic pieces in modern interiors, from the Eames Lounge Chair to the Eames Plastic Chair collection. More than just beautiful objects, their designs embody a philosophy of practicality, comfort and timeless style. As Charles Eames once put it, “Recognising the need is the primary condition for the design.”
Today, Vitra continues to honour and produce the Eames’ creations, ensuring their legacy lives on in homes, offices and public spaces around the world.
