Description

Charles Rennie Mackintosh was one of the most well known representatives of Art Nouveau, pioneering a unique and original design constructed of geometric shapes based on horizontal and vertical lines. His original Hill House Chair marked a new phase in his work and was originally made for the house of a Scottish publisher functioning more as an artistic piece than an everyday chair. Its extended back was first used by Mackintosh in 1897 and later became a characteristic motif.

These distinguishing features of the original Hill House Chair have been replicated here in this Vitra Miniature Hill House model. As part of the Vitra Design Museum collection, miniature editions of classic chairs were produced to form part of modern furniture design history. The construction, materials and colours of the miniatures correspond to the historical Vitra Design Museum collection originals, right down to the last detail.

Because they are so true to the originals, the miniatures are not only valuable collector's items, but also ideal illustrative materials for universities, design colleges and architects.
