Description
The &Tradition Verpan VP13 Table Lamp reimagines a Danish modern classic with sculptural elegance. Originally derived from Verner Panton’s 1959 Topan pendant, the VP13 brings a fresh perspective to one of his most recognisable forms. The idea for a table and floor version emerged in 1962, when designer Nanna Ditzel asked Panton for an unconventional lighting solution for her exhibition. His answer was playful and unexpected: the familiar Topan shade balanced on a cylindrical acrylic base, appearing to float just above the ground.
The result is a lamp that feels both atmospheric and architectural — a striking geometric form that radiates a soft, ambient glow. More than functional lighting, the VP13 acts as a sculptural focal point, bringing depth and character to any interior.
Whether placed on a side table, desk or bedside, the VP13 brings a sense of sophistication while remaining practical and versatile. Designed to stand the test of time, it reflects the core values of Scandinavian design: functionality, simplicity and elegance.
Available in three finishes with a matching textile cord, the lamp’s shade is spun from a single piece of aluminium, giving it a seamless, sculptural quality. The cylindrical base is crafted from extruded acrylic, with flame-polished edges that create a smooth, transparent finish. The result is a lamp that feels refined in both form and detail.

Verner Panton
Verner Panton (1926–1998) was one of Denmark’s most influential and daring 20th-century designers, celebrated for his bold use of colour, innovative materials, and sculptural forms. Originally working for Arne Jacobsen he broke away from the traditional Scandinavian design language of natural woods and muted tones, embracing plastic, steel, and vibrant palettes to create designs that felt futuristic, playful, and unmistakably modern.
Best known for the Vitra Panton Chair, the world’s first moulded plastic chair made from a single piece, his work pushed the boundaries of what furniture and lighting could be. From striking pendant lamps to expressive modular seating systems, Panton’s creations are not only functional but also immersive, transforming interiors into environments full of personality and energy.
Throughout his career, he collaborated with leading brands such as Vitra producing pieces that remain icons of modern design. His lamps and furniture are now regarded as design classics, held in museum collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the V&A in London.
