Børge Mogensen
Known as ‘the people’s designer’, Børge Mogensen was a pioneer in shaping Danish Modern Design. After studying at Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, Mogensen was Frederecia's founding designer from 1955 until his death in 1972.
Inspired by different cultures and styles from around the world including international modernism, ethnic arts, Japanese carvings, and historic works, his vision was to create simple yet durable everyday objects that would endure for generations. His use of refined, yet rustic, natural materials shaped his modest and distinctive furniture emphasised by simple vertical and horizontal lines and surfaces.
Creating furniture with a restrained aesthetic, Mogensen believed in visual clarity, minimal decoration and experimentation, as seen in his classic Hunting Table and Fredericia Spanish Chair. His influence as a post-war designer made him a leading representative of Danish Modern and his award-winning designs are still appreciated today in private homes and public offices alike.
