The Original Fritz Hansen Egg Chair is one of the most recognisable pieces of 20th-century design – a sculptural lounge chair that perfectly captures the optimism and innovation of Danish Modernism. Designed by Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the lobby and reception area of the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen - a project for which Jacobsen designed everything from the building itself right down to the furniture and bathroom taps.

Unlike traditional lounge chairs of the 1950s, the Egg Chair broke away from rigid lines and visible frames. Arne Jacobsen developed a new technique using a strong foam shell over a steel inner structure, allowing him to create the chair’s distinctive yet comfortable curved form. The result was a design that feels both organic and futuristic - soft, flowing lines wrapped around a supportive core.

The high, winged back was intentionally shaped to create a sense of privacy in open spaces. In the busy hotel lobby, the chair offered guests a cocoon-like retreat. Since then the Egg Chair has become a cornerstone of design  and a classic in its own right - not least because of its commercial popularity. With its instantly recognisable silhouette and star shaped swivel aluminium base the Egg Chair also features a tilt feature and, as an extra option, an automatic return which places the chair back in its original position when the sitter gets up to leave.

The Egg Chair  is made from a reinforced shell with cold-cured foam padding for comfort and shape retention. An aniline leather, it has an exclusive and natural look and is soft and pleasant to the touch. The leather has a natural surface structure and all natural markings are visible giving the chair a unique sense of character. The leather acquires a beautiful darker patina with use and exposure to sunlight.
White Leather : The finest quality oxhide, soft to the touch and offering excellent sitting comfort. Treated with a light finish, the hide is resilient and easy to look after.
