Why you'll love this modern upholstered dining chair
The Upholstered Trinidad Chair from Fredericia was designed by Nanna Ditzel and launched in 1993. Since then, it has enjoyed continued success for use in both private domestic and public spaces. With a light expression characterised by the cutout fretwork to the chair's plywood shell back, the Trinidad Chair was inspired by the 'gingerbread façades' of colonial Trinidad.
“On Trinidad I saw how the facades of the houses nearly dissolves in light and shadow – almost like a lace – and I thought to myself: How can I use this for a chair?”
Utilising new CNC technology in which computers lead cutting tools for extra precision, the Trinidad chair was heralded as a breakthrough in modern design when first presented. The cutout back of the chair is not only decorative but also allows for proper ventilation and provides excellent acoustics. The chair has been popular for use in concert halls and auditoriums for this reason. The chair has an upholstered seat, and comes with optional felt glides.
