The Trinidad Chair from Fredericia was designed byNanna Ditzel and launched in 1993. Since then, it has enjoyed continued success for use in both private domestic and public spaces. With a light expression characterised by the cutout fretwork to the chair's plywood shell back, the Trinidad Chair was inspired by the 'gingerbread façades' of colonial Trinidad. 

“On Trinidad I saw how the facades of the houses nearly dissolves in light and shadow – almost like a lace – and I thought to myself: How can I use this for a chair?”

Utilising new CNC technology in which computers lead cutting tools for extra precision, the Trinidad chair was heralded as a breakthrough in modern design when first presented. The cutout back of the chair is not only decorative but also allows for proper ventilation and provides excellent acoustics.
