Description
The extendable Carl Hansen CH339 Dining Table, designed by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen, demonstrates his unrivalled craftsmanship.This oval dining table exhibits Wegner's talent with solid wood, evident through the interconnecting solid wood forms supporting the thick tabletop. Smooth linear beams extend underneath along the width and depth of the tabletop, slotting into the legs to create organic joints. Architectural detailing plays a prominent attribute in the frame design. Along the top of the tabletop a separation line is visible which opens out for each extension leaf to drop into its centre (if required).
Two alternative tables are available, both extending to different lengths. One has hardware accommodating a maximum of two extension leaves, extending up to 360cm in length. This includes one supporting leg in black. The second has hardware accommodating a maximum of four extension leaves, extending up to 480cm in length. This includes four supporting wooden legs. Each wooden support leg included is placed in the centre of the extended table. When not in use this is discreetly secured to the underneath of the tabletop, forming part of a compact design within the extension mechanism.
The tabletop can be selected from soaped or oiled beech or oak or oiled walnut. Each extension leaf measures 115cm x 60cm and is available in black or grey MDF, or the same wood finishes as the main table.
PLEASE NOTE Black and grey MDF extension leaves can be selected (ideal if you're covering with a tablecloth) or leaves in the same wood and finish. If more than one extension leaf is requested, only one of the solid wood extension leaves is produced from the exact same wood as the tabletop.
***FINISHES***
Oil - Grain and structure are visible; lighter than soap; creates lustre and brings out contrast in grain and structure. Darkens over time to a rich patina.
Soap - The closest to raw wood; grain and structure are visible; light in colour.

Hans J Wegner
Danish designer Hans J. Wegner was born in Denmark in 1914. At the age of 17, he finished his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker with H. F. Stahlberg. He moved to Copenhagen and attended the School of Arts and Crafts from 1936 1938 before he began working as an architect. Among Danish designers Wegner is considered one of the most creative and productive - receiving practically every major recognition given to designers, including the Lunning prize and Swedens Prince Eugen medal. He worked extensively with Carl Hansen & Son throughout his career to create some of the most iconic designs in twentieth century furniture.
