Vitra Ceramic Container No.1
Ceramic Container No.1 has been derived from the original lathe-turned wooden objects designed by Alexander Girard, in 1952. Now brought back to life by Vitra, the hand-glazed ceramic containers feature beautiful silhouettes that are reminiscent of the traditional shapes of apothecary vessels, board game tokens or millinery blocks. Container No.1 is available in three beautiful colours, cream, dark aubergine and ice grey.

The Ceramic Containers designed in 1952 by Alexander Girard, were originally made of wood, hand-turned by Girard on a lathe in his workshop. Vitra has teamed together with Girard's family to bring the three beautiful objects back to life by recreating the design in ceramic. The hand-glazed pieces feature hues from Girard’s rich colour palette and can be used to store keys, coins or odds and ends. A playful twentieth-century design that will add character and charm to any setting.
Alexander Girard was one of the decisive figures of post-war American design alongside his close friends George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames. Girard designed a multitude of textiles that reflect his love of festive colours and patterns. He was an influential figure in the fields of furniture, exhibition and interior design as well as in the graphic arts throughout his career.
