Fredericia Wegner Ox Lounge Chair
Designed by Hans J. Wegner, the Fredericia Ox Easy Chair is an iconic statement piece with an indisputable presence. Ox is a bold, sculptural chair that challenged the understated aesthetics of Danish design at the time. Wegner's classic is available today in a beautiful range of upholstery options, as well as two base finishes - black and brushed stainless steel.

Description
The Fredericia Wegner Ox Lounge Chair is one of Hans J Wegner's boldest and most sculptural designs, and one of his personal favourites. Originally produced by AP Stolen under the name AP46, the chair later became known as Ox due to its symbolic reference to ox horns, generous proportions and delicate frame.
In 1960 when production began with AP Stolen, each chair was custom-made and upholstered with wood. After 2 years, production was halted until almost three decades later in 1989, when Wegner approached Erik Jørgensen in search of a more viable method of construction. Known for his upholstery expertise, Jørgensen rose to the occasion with an innovative solution. Inspired by his trip to the Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli, Jørgensen saw the potential in using foam rubber to optimise comfort.
Fun fact: due to the complex upholstery, it takes a new upholsterer 1.5 years to learn the process. It also demands a great deal of precision and muscular strength.

Hans J Wegner
Danish designer Hans J. Wegner was born in Denmark in 1914. At the age of 17, he finished his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker with H. F. Stahlberg. He moved to Copenhagen and attended the School of Arts and Crafts from 1936 1938 before he began working as an architect. Among Danish designers Wegner is considered one of the most creative and productive - receiving practically every major recognition given to designers, including the Lunning prize and Swedens Prince Eugen medal. He worked extensively with Carl Hansen & Son throughout his career to create some of the most iconic designs in twentieth century furniture.
