The Artek Rope Chair is a new expression which continues the modernist aim of achieving a fruitful union of art and technology, the ideals of which after which 'Artek' was named. It was this ideal which designers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec applied to create a chair which marries free artistic expression with industrial production methods, creating a chair with a synthesis of contrasts - soft and hard, practical and playful, fixed and flexible.
Made for marine use, the rope is at the heart of the chair’s unexpected comfort; a weight-bearing part of the construction, it allows the chair to adapt to those who use it. Furthermore, where other chairs dictate a specific way of sitting, the Rope Chair invites creativity in posture, encouraging dynamic movement and changes in position. When the sitter rises, the chair’s frame bears the traces of the body it last supported, the imprint of a user who co-defines its shape. As a dining chair in a group setting ur as an accent chair in any pace the Rope Chair never fails to amuse and engage.

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are internationally acclaimed French designers whose work has shaped contemporary furniture and product design over the past two decades. Born in Quimper, Brittany, the brothers established their Paris-based design studio in 1999 and quickly gained recognition for their unique ability to blend simplicity, functionality and poetic form.
Their portfolio spans furniture, lighting, textiles, accessories and architectural projects, with collaborations that include some of the world’s leading design brands such as Vitra, HAY, Artek, Magis, Alessi, , Flos and Kvadrat. The Bouroullec brothers’ designs are celebrated for their refined balance between everyday practicality and artistic expression, often exploring modular systems, organic forms and innovative uses of materials.
Throughout their career, they have received numerous international awards and their work is held in the permanent collections of major museums, including the Centre Pompidou, MoMA in New York and the Design Museum in London. Notable projects include the HAY Palissade Collection, Vitra Alcove Sofa, and Serif TV for Samsung, all of which embody their commitment to creating accessible, enduring design for modern life.
