Description
The &Tradition Mayor Sofa, designed Arne Jacobsen & Flemming Lassen, is a modern sofa which - although designed in 1939 - still looks as contemporary and relevant today. Originally designed for the for the Søllerød City Hall it was put back into production by &Tradition in 2013. The base is made from solid oak or walnut onto which is mounted a solid wood frame, with upholstered CHMR foam. With three loose seat cushions the Mayor Sofa shows moderation and modernism in equal measure. Two rows of elegant buttons extend over the armrests and back to give the sofa a simple and stylish look. Fitting into modern homes and work spaces Mayor is a sofa which will never date and takes on a new expressions with each upholstery choice and colour. Arne Jacobsen
Arne Jacobsen was born in Copenhagen in 1902 and graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in architecture in 1927. He was prolific both as an architect and as a designer. He is most famous for designing the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, and for the interior, the Egg and Swan Chair together with the Swan Sofa and Series 3300 with Fritz Hansen. This propelled the Arne Jacobsen name into furniture history.
