Florence Knoll

Florence Knoll

Florence Knoll is an American architect and furniture designer, born in Michigan in 1917. Knoll studied under Mies van der Rohe and Eliel Saarinen during her education at Cranbrook Academy of Art and Illinois Institute of Technology. She married Hans Knoll in 1946, and became a full business partner of his eponymous furniture company. Together they founded Knoll Associates, now known as Knoll StudioKnoll's most famous creations, architecturally, are the Connecticut General Life Insurance building in Bloomfield, Connecticut and the interior of the CBS Building in New York City. She felt architects should contribute their design ability to furniture as well and here we feature one of her most well known pieces, the Florence Knoll Sofa.
