Eames Plastic Chairs
The Eames Plastic Chairs, created by Charles and Ray Eames, were the very first plastic chairs to be made using industrial production methods. Their creation is one of the most important furniture breakthroughs in design of the twentieth century and remains current today. However, since their introduction the average height of people has increased. Following the Eames credo that the recognition of need is a condition of good design, Vitra, in collaboration with the Eames Office, has raised the seat height of the chairs by 20mm to cater for modern man. In addition, the range has been extended with six new colours - to complement the mid century colours available until now. These colours have been curated by Vitra colour consultant Hella Jongerius.
