The Egg Chair from Fritz Hansen was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen - a project for which Jacobsen designed everything from the building itself right down to the furniture and bathroom taps. Since then the Egg Chair has become a design classic - not least because of its commercial popularity.
With its instantly recognisable silhouette and star shaped swivel aluminium base the Egg Chair also features a tilt feature and an option of an automatic return which turns the chair back to its original position once used.
Manufactured by Fritz Hansen in Denmark the Egg Chair has seen many copies made. Here at Utility we only sell the original.
Divina Fabric - 100% new wool from Kvadrat with a soft, felt-like texture. Beautiful, comfortable to sit on and extremely durable. Classic Leather : A durable and very user-friendly type of leather with a slight grain. Resilient to dirt and light exposure, the leather maintains its looks over time.
About The Designer
Arne Jacobsen was born in Copenhagen in 1902 and graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in architecture in 1927. He was prolific both as an architect and as a designer. He is most famous for designing the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, and for the interior, the Egg and Swan Chair together with the Swan Sofa and Series 3300 with Fritz Hansen. This propelled the Arne Jacobsen name into furniture history.
