The Egg Chair from Fritz Hansen was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen - a project for which Jacobsen designed everything from the building itself right down to the furniture and bathroom taps. Since then, the Egg Chair has become a design classic - not least because of its commercial popularity.
In celebration of the Egg Chair's 60th Anniversary, Fritz Hansen have released a limited run (1958 pcs) of special edition chairs featuring serene pure leather upholstery and a lustrous 24kt gold coated base. The starting point of the 60th anniversary edition design was 'nature' and this is reflected beautifully in the choice of soft-touch aniline pure leather. Each leather hide used features its own 'beauty marks' in the form of scars, insect bites and neck lines gathered over the natural life of the hide. Each chair will become personal to its user, as through use and exposure to sunlight it will darken and develop its own unique patina.
Each Fritz Hansen Egg chair features a special 60th anniversary leather engraving, with numbering and is available until 31st December 2018.
