Description
The Carl Hansen CH388 Extendable Dining Table, designed by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen, demonstrates unrivalled craftsmanship.
CH388 successfully exhibits Wegner's experimentation with stainless steel, evident through the detailing around the top of the base. This steel form strengthens the tabletop's rounded edges and acts to unite the legs for a bold statement, stretching the depth of the table at either side.
Architectural detailing plays a prominent attribute in the frame design, supporting the thick tabletop. Along the top of the tabletop, a separation line is visible which opens out for each extension leaf to drop into its centre (if required). Two leaves can be inserted extending to a maximum width of 240cm from 120cm.
A wooden support leg is included which is placed in the centre of the extended table. When not in use this is discreetly secured to the underneath of the tabletop, forming part of a compact design within the extension mechanism.
The tabletop can be selected from a range of options which include white laminate or solid oak with a soap or oiled finish.
PLEASE NOTE For solid oak tabletops black or grey MDF extension leaves can be chosen (ideal if you're covering with a tablecloth) or leaves in the same wood and finish. If more than one extension leaf is requested, only one of the solid wood extension leaves is produced from the exact same wood as the tabletop.

***FINISHES***
Oil - Grain and structure are visible; lighter than soap; creates lustre and brings out the contrast in grain and structure. Darkens over time to a rich patina.
Soap- The closest to raw wood; grain and structure are visible; light in colour.

Hans J Wegner
Danish designer Hans J. Wegner was born in Denmark in 1914. At the age of 17, he finished his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker with H. F. Stahlberg. He moved to Copenhagen and attended the School of Arts and Crafts from 1936 1938 before he began working as an architect. Among Danish designers Wegner is considered one of the most creative and productive - receiving practically every major recognition given to designers, including the Lunning prize and Swedens Prince Eugen medal. He worked extensively with Carl Hansen & Son throughout his career to create some of the most iconic designs in twentieth century furniture.
