The Meltdown Lamp, designed by Swedish designer Johan Lindstén for Cappellini is a lamp of thin coloured glass with a spherical shape, hand blown in a mould. Inspiration behind the idea was to interpret and make something beautiful from the disastrous nuclear accident in Fukushima. The disaster is reflected in the lamps with the process already begun and the bulbs are about to melt through the last defence of the glass.
Guilio Cappellini discovered the design and continuing the desire to be synonymous with contemporary avant-garde design, the strength of the creation led to its swift realisation as a Cappellini product.
