Scented candles are universally adored. There’s almost nothing as welcoming as a high-quality fragrance and a warm cosy glow when you enter someone’s home. A good scented candle not only perfumes a space but also evokes an intimate atmosphere, passions and feelings. This is especially true during winter- the perfect season to relax by candlelight. Gentle flickering flames bring light to dark evenings, whilst festive fragrances from cinnamon to pomegranate instil a true feeling of warmth and Christmas spirit.
Voluspa and Skandinavisk are Utility's latest luxury candle brands that perfectly combine beauty and aromatherapy at amazing value. Whether you’re on your own or are having friends and family over for an informal get together, light one of our new candles and your home will instantly become a festive haven that guests will remember.
Introducing : Voluspa
Founded in 1999 by husband and wife Troy and Traci Arnsten, Voluspa is fuelled by a love for art, fragrance and elegant illumination. Combining Troy's technical background with Traci's botanical expertise, the couple perfected their first candle in their kitchen and have since been credited with developing clean-burning and potently fragrant candles renowned in the industry. Indeed, Voluspa is one of the first candle companies to use coconut wax commercially, which burns up to 90% cleaner than the more typically used soy wax and holds an exceptionally high amount of fragrance whilst emitting a lustrous glow.
All Voluspa scents are artfully curated by the Arnstens, who also design their own candle glass and packaging. Japoconia, the Voluspa collection at Utility, is inspired by the fine art of Japanese paper-making and combines demure floral packaging with a highly refined blend of custom developed fragrances. It is from finding a niche in developing eco-friendly, extraordinary smelling candles in striking packaging, that Voluspa is regularly featured in established magazines including Cosmopolitan and Vanity Fair, and a staple in the homes of Hollywood’s most discerning celebrities. Victoria Beckham, Halle Berry, Adam Levine, Cameron Diaz, Jessica Alba and the Kardashian family are all known fans of Voluspa.
Introducing : Skandinavisk
Skandinavisk was founded by two English chaps Shaun and Gerry, who fell in love with two blonde Scandinavian women 15 years ago and never left. After working and living between Stockholm and Copenhagen, they fell in love with the Scandinavian way of life too- the focus on life's small moments, the priority of family over career, the cycle to the office, the home at 4pm, the raw nature, the endless summers, the magnificent capital cities, the enviable quality of life that even bitter winters couldn't dilute.
Their stunning range of scented candles and diffusers embody the essence of Scandinavia in warmth, light, scent and colour, and all take their names from a Scandinavian word for the mood they're designed to capture. For example, The Hygge candle and Hygge Diffuser reference the Danish term for "the art of creating intimacy, fellowship and cosiness", and the Koto Candle and Koto Diffuser references the traditional Finnish word for home- a cosy refuge from the rugged climate and an intimate space to refresh the soul. With their tranquil aromas and long-lasting glows, Skandinavisk candles make any moment softer, more informal, more cosy and more intimate whilst nourishing the soul.
Scented candles make great gifts for anyone. They also make a welcome change to the standard bottle of wine taken to a dinner party! Buying a Voluspa or a Skandinavisk scented candle for a special friend or loved this season will truly ensure the magic and sparkle of Christmas lasts well into the New Year and beyond, when the winter cold really starts to bite outside. It's also worth knowing that Scandinavians light more candles than any other region world-wide and they're constantly said to be the world's happiest peoples, which may not be coincidence!
