Did you know……
In 1762 during a 24 hour gambling streak, John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, is said to have ordered his cook to prepare his food in such a way that would not interfere with his game. He was consequently presented with sliced beef between two pieces of toast, which could be eaten with one hand, leaving the other free to play cards. The trend caught on, and soon others began to order ‘the same as sandwich’. Thus a humble snack became what is today quite possibly the most iconic British culinary invention- the Sandwich.
This week is British Sandwich week, and to honour the delicious delicacy we thought we’d round up a few of the best places to get your sandwich fix in Liverpool.
Established 30 years ago in Chester, Philpotts has a history of experience in providing customers with deliciously fresh handmade sandwiches. Not only do they offer individual baguettes, wraps, salads and sandwiches, (with a signature sandwich introduced each month), but do they also run a catering service for business meetings and events.
With two stores in Liverpool and an online delivery service, Philpotts is perfect for when you need lunch on the go.

Located opposite our home store on Bold Street, we're big fans of Leaf at Utility. Beginning as a small tea shop in 2007, it's now an amazing bohemian café & event space spanning two floors.
Not only does Leaf boast a wide-ranging variety of lose-leaf teas, but does it also have a wholesome food menu that offers some of the best sandwiches around. Great with soup and some freshly squeezed OJ, our favourite has to be the Moroccan Chicken sandwich.
Find Leaf : 65-67 Bold Street Liverpool, L1 4EZ
