North European simplicity is a hugely popular and appealing and the FH429 Signature Chair embodies everything we love about Scandinavian design. Made in 1954, it was the last piece of furniture Fritz Henningsen would create before his death in 1965 and consummated his legacy as one of Denmark’s greatest designers. Its elegant minimalism was achieved as a result of Henningsen’s efforts to achieve perfection through choice of materials, functionality and comfort.
Today, the Signature Chair is manufactured by Carl Hanson & Son, a third-generation family brand that produces enduring classic furniture designs in a new, dedicated facility according to the strictest quality and environmental standards. To produce Signature Carl Hansen himself had to source an original (of which there were only 20) X-ray, dismantle and then re-create it in order to stay true to its original design. The result was a triumph of undisputed beauty and comfort. The FH429 design with its organic form and curved lines, is great for a cosy nook in your home. It will look particularly inviting when partnered with a side table to create the ultimate sophisticated reading corner guests will envy.
Available at Utility in various oak and walnut frames and a variety of fabric/colour options, this iconic chair can be customised to suit a wide range of interiors - Signature is a chair to cherish for years to come.
Charles & Ray Eames were the dream couple of American design and are perhaps its greatest exponents. A product of Post-war American optimism, they explored work in many disciplines including photography, architecture and furniture design.
Their most iconic piece, the Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman is the epitome of a design classic and one of the most remarkable contemporary pieces in the history of modern furniture. Inspired by a traditional English Club Chair, the couple sought to combine the utmost comfort with high-end, top-quality materials. Just as intended, the result was an armchair and ottoman conveying the impression of a soft, well used baseball glove, inviting the user to sink back into it. Now produced under licence by Vitra, The Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman is coveted by everyone who loves modern furniture. It consists of three laminated wooden shells attached to a die cast aluminium frame on shock mounts, giving a flexible connection, whilst soft leather (nappa cowhide) upholstery sections provide the comfort. The base is swivel on the chair and fixed on the ottoman.
What's even better is that with every Eames Lounge Chair you order, you'll get a FREE Vitra gift (limited time only).
Like the Carl Hansen Signature Chair, the Vitra Eames Lounge Chair can be customised to suit your particular needs. The wooden shell veneer is available in cherry, Santos Palisander (rosewood), black pigmented walnut or white pigmented walnut, and leathers are available in black, brown or rich chocolate. The base options include chrome, polished aluminium, or black with polished aluminium detail on the horizontal surfaces.
Here at Utility, if you buy a Vitra Eames Lounge Chair or Grand Repos Chair today, you can claim a FREE Vitra gift worth up to over £300.
The Lamino Armchair is a best-seller from Swedish company Swedese. Designed in 1956 by Swedese founder Yngve Ektrom, it is a classically styled, Scandinavian-influenced piece. Whether it's placed on its own in a cosy corner or with other chairs and sofas to provide extra seating, the Lamino will make a subtle statement in your home. One of our most comfortable armchairs, it’s particularly great for smaller spaces. Its slender form provides all the comfort of larger armchairs without the bulk.
Epitomising the concept of “Scandinavian Modern” completely, the Lamino Armchair has a refined timber frame available in various oak finishes and is available in four high quality fabrics: Divina Meanage, Elmsoft Leather, Sheepskin or Tweed. Divina Meange is a textured material full of richness, Elmsoft Leather is a durable and comfortable material from Scandinavian cattle, Sheepskin is soft and luxuriously warming and Tweed is made from 100% new wool, offering a classic yet understated finish.
In 1999 the Lamino was voted the "Twentieth Century's Best Swedish Furniture Design" by the Swedish interior magazine Sköna Hem. 16 years later, it’s still an outstanding piece of furniture that guests won’t fail to notice.
