The Plywood Group of chairs by Charles & Ray Eames were a series of chairs combining different base frames with plywood shells. From the very outset this version with a chromed tubular steel base was launched, making the design appear light yet creating a certain tension in the contrast of two materials.
Manufactured today by Vitra the LCM Chair (or 'Lounge Chair Metal', to give it its full title) is available with either a natural or black ash finish - as per the original model. In 1946 the calf skin version was introduced, originally in small numbers, but is now available in either black and white (with a black ash shell) or brown and white (with a natural ash shell).
