The Wishbone Chair, CH24 or 'Y' Chair was designed by Hans J.Wegner in 1949. Manufactured by Carl Hansen & Son in Denmark the Wishbone Chair is every inch the Danish design classic.
The Wishbone or Y Chair acquired its name due to the 'Y' shaped back and with its measured use of materials is a light, sculptural dining chair which offers good back support and a comfortable sitting position.
Available in Danish hardwoods (oak, beech, ash, maple) as well North American hardwoods (walnut and cherry) the Wishbone Chair comes in a variety of finishes (soap, oil, lacquer) with a seat in hand-woven paper cord (unbleached/natural or black). The variations are listed below.
***FINISHES***
Soap - The closest to raw wood; grain and structure are visible; light in colour
Oil - Grain and structure are visible; lighter than soap; creates lustre and brings out contrast in grain and structure. Darkens over time to a rich patina
Pigmented Oil - Grains and structure visible; lightens wood and doesn't darken over time. Brings out contrast in grain and structure
Stain/Varnish - Structure visible but grain and other contrasts are covered; uniform dark wood colours
Clear Lacquer - Grain & structure visible, darker than soap, glossy smooth finish which yellows over time.
