This is the upholstered version of the Vitra Eames DAR Chair with its chrome `Eiffel Tower` leg base. It's based on the original 1950 fibreglass design of the first industrially manufactured plastic chair.
In 1993 Vitra discontinued production for ecological reasons as fibreglass cannot be re-cycled. Thanks to advances in technology it is now produced in polypropylene.
The Eames DAR Chair comes available in a range of mid century modern colours reflecting its heritage and the period when it was first launched. In 2010 Vitra introduced this upholstered version which, as well as retaining the outer shell colour, also offers a number of coloured upholstery options in Hopsak (100% polyamide) with either black or white piping. Upholstery is available either on just the seat pad or the whole chair.
For the all plastic version see Vitra Eames DAR Chair.
