This is the upholstered version of the Vitra Eames DSW Chair with its maple 'Eiffel Tower' leg base. It's based on the original 1950 fibreglass design of the first industrially manufactured plastic chair.
In 1993 Vitra discontinued production for ecological reasons as fibreglass cannot be re-cycled. Thanks to recent advances in technology it is now made in polypropylene.
The Eames DSW Chair shell comes available in a range of mid century modern colours reflecting its heritage and the period when it was first launched. In 2010 Vitra introduced this upholstered version which, as well as retaining the outer shell colour, also offers a number of coloured upholstery options in Hopsak (100% polyamide). Upholstery is available on just the seat pad or the whole chair. With the fully upholstered version black or white piping can be selected, uniting the plastic and upholstered elements.
For the all plastic version see Vitra Eames DSW Chair
