Superlambanana was the original work of Japanese artist Taro Chiezo and was initially located on Liverpool's Strand. Standing seventeen feet tall it was created to warn of the dangers of genetically modified food, whilst being appropriate to the city of Liverpool due to the port's rich history in the trade of lambs and the import of bananas.
Initial scepticism of the Superlambanana gave way to a huge fondness of the lovable creature, created in no small part due to the 'Go Superlambananas' trail which featured 125 models of the Superlambanana located all over the city. Each was decorated by a commissioned artist working with community groups and local businesses. The trail ran for 10 weeks until the end of August 2008.
Cuddly Superlambanana is a soft toy version of this bright yellow icon and will be loved by children and adults alike.
