Hans Sandgren Jakobsen was inspired by the classic Helium balloon which floats naturally through the air when he created his Helium lamp range for Lightyears.
The Helium floor lamp's base and stem are made of a die cast aluminium and steel alloy which give the lamp weight.
The base has a dish-shaped depression which reflects some of the light back up the stem and the convex surface of the base is also illuminated. The construction of the armature is based on mathematical calculations which ensure even lighting of the glass with no hint of shadows. The shade itself is hand-blown, triple-layered, opal glass, mounted on a silicone ring on top of the armature housing - this helps protects the glass and balances it.
In terms of lighting technology, Helium is a really well conceived lamp. It provides concentrated, direct lighting as well as enhancing the diffused, ambient lighting of any room.
Helium is also available as a table lamp and ceiling light.
