Knoll Barcelona Chair

£3,667.00

Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1929 for the German Pavilion at the Exposicion Internacional de Barcelona, the Barcelona chairwas actually used as a throne for King Alfonso XIII at the exhibition's opening ceremonies.

The interior of the pavilion was quintessentially of the International Style which Mies van der Rohe's name is synonymous with.

The frame of the Barcelona chair is made from chromed steel which has been hand ground and hand buffed to a mirror finish. The upholstery element is attached with the aid of aluminium rivets and this is made from 40 individual panels which have been cut and hand welted and hand tufted with leather and buttons from a single cowhide. The cushions are made from premium quality fire retardant, high resilient urethane foam with down like dacron polyester fibrefill

If immitation really is the ultimate form of flattery then the Barcelona chair has to be at the top of the flattery stakes with the various copies which have been produced over the years. Naturally Utility only sells the original, produced by Knoll, and to reinforce this the signature of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is stamped into the base of the chair with each chair having an individual production number of identification and authenticity.

Available here in black Volo leather the Barcelona chair also comes in many other leather options and colours. An ottoman is also available to compliment the Barcelona chair. Please call us on 0151 708 4192 for further details.
