Vitra Eames White Lounge Chair & Ottoman
In the mid 1950s Charles & Ray Eames designed the Lounge Chair & Ottoman as a modern interpretation of the traditional English club chair. Featuring black leather cushions, a dark jacaranda veneer and black painted aluminium base this went on to become an icon. Whilst variations have been introduced there has always been a demand for a version with white leather upholstery.
In collaboration with the Eames estate and Hella Jongerius - designer of the Polder sofa - Vitra has now produced this 'light' version of the lounge chair. Instead of a blossom white the leather upholstery is more of a grey tinted off white shade, which fits better with the character of the piece. To co-ordinate with this the plywood shells have a pigmented walnut veneer and an aluminium base.
To ensure consistency of the design down to the tiniest detail, the zips on the cushions are the same colour as the leather, as are the inner surfaces of the wooden shells and the metal strips under the armrests.
With its fresh and light appearance the White Lounge Chair is yet another affirmation of the lasting appeal of this classic design.
The new version is ideal for a light and elegant setting where the desire is to create a luxurious atmosphere without being reminiscent of a traditional club.
The price stated is for both the lounge chair and the ottoman.
